The History of the Baldwin Rail Trail

The rail corridor on which the Baldwin Rail Trail was built was previously used as part of the Jacksonville, Tampa and Key West Railway (JTKW). After it was abandoned in 1937 when JTKW went bankrupt, it lay unused until 1984 when it was purchased by the St. Johns River Water Management District. In 1996, construction began on the first section of rail-trail south of Baldwin; today there are 4 miles of trails that are open to pedestrians, bikers and horseback riders alike.
